When installing your shank, the snap rings fits into the groove at the end. Working in conjunction with the shank sleeve, it prevents the coupling nut from sliding off the end, which helps create a secure connection between the nut and the beer faucet. As you can imagine, this small part is very easy to misplace, which is why a replacement part is needed.
